Adult Day Social and Health Care Service Centers
Adult Day Services provide accepting and safe interactive day programs for frail adults who need socialization and also for those with long-term chronic diseases or other disabling conditions, such as depression, diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, emphysema, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. Daily activities and / or a structured therapeutic program designed to stimulate and challenge the body and mind.

Lafayette Senior Services Center
Senior Centers are committed to enhancing a quality of life for older adults. Their programs and services emphasize productive and meaningful experiences, and encourage continued independence and involvement in the community. The following is a sample of the activities and services that the Lafayette Senior Services Center makes available:
- Each quarter a number of classes, workshops, activities, and entertainment are offered.
- Tea Dances are held at the Lafayette Community Center every Wednesday from 12:30 pm – 3:00 pm. Fee is $2 for Senior Center members, $4 for non-members
- Information is available on area resources, senior services, and senior care.
- Free legal counseling is offered by appointment.
- Free HICAP (Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program) counseling is offered by appointment on health insurance, long term care, Medicare, HMOs, and supplemental insurance.

Nursing Home Abuse Center – the Nursing Home Abuse Center (NHAC) was founded on time-honored principles of restoring dignity for some of our most vulnerable and valuable citizens.
The Mesothelioma + Asbestos Awareness Center is dedicated to bringing attention to the dangers of asbestos and the deadly form of cancer it causes: mesothelioma. The website serves as a repository of information for mesothelioma patients and their families, caregivers, advocates, and others who are looking to learn more about the disease.
Lamorinda Senior Transportation Project
The Lamorinda Senior Transportation project is an alliance of transportation providers. The Lamorinda Spirit Van equipped with a wheel chair lift takes older residents of Lafayette, Moraga, and Orinda to the CC Cafe lunch program in Walnut Creek, local medical appointments, and shopping errands. The discount taxi service provided exclusively by Contra Costa Yellow Cab and DeSoto Company gives Lamorinda Seniors a 20% discount and the volunteer private vehicle driving service provided by volunteers from Senior Helpline Services and Orinda’s Senior Around Town program (for Orinda residents only), takes seniors on customized trips as well.

CC Café Lunch (allow 10 AM – 1:00 PM time frame) – no cost except $2 for lunch. Shopping in Orinda Tuesdays, in Lafayette Wednesdays, in Moraga Thursdays. $6 round trip.
Mobility Matters offers ambulatory, otherwise home bound senior residents of Contra Costa County free, one-on-one, door-through-door rides provided by volunteer drivers. These rides are primarily for the purpose of obtaining medical care, groceries, and other basic necessities. Training for volunteer drivers includes learning and practicing safety techniques.

Discount Taxi Services – Contra Costa Yellow Cab and DeSoto Company provide a 20% taxi discount for seniors.
- Call in advance and remember to give yourself plenty of time for unavoidable traffic delays. This is particularly essential if you have an important appointment.
- On your first Discount for Seniors trip to a specific destination, ask the taxi dispatcher to estimate the fare and the time required. Remember, however, it is only an estimate.
- Tipping the driver is up to you and entirely optional.
- Sharing a ride with a friend is fun and economical as well!

Contra Costa County Area Agency on Aging
The Contra Costa Area Agency on Aging is a system of care and support for adults aged 60 and older and adults with disabilities to lead independent and dignified lives in their own homes for as long as possible. The Agency contracts with local non-profit service providers to provide the following programs:

The Agency also helps fund a variety of meal programs:
Congregate Meals – The Senior Nutrition Program serves meals at 21 different sites called “Cafes” throughout Contra Costa County. Transportation is provided for those who cannot drive. A registered dietician presents nutritional education programs at each of the congregate meal sites. For information on the Senior Lunch Sites call (800) 510-2020.
Home Delivered Meals – Homebound seniors over 60 receive home delivered meals at least five days a week through the Senior Nutrition Program. For Meals on Wheels call 937-8607.
LOPC Senior Center
The Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church (LOPC) Senior Center is open every Thursday from 11am to 1:30pm in the Fellowship Hall. Programs include crafts, games, exercises, and Bible study. The center tries to provide volunteer drives for guests needing transportation with the Lamorinda area. Bring a sandwich, the Center provides beverages, salads and desserts. A place where friendships are formed and everyone’s participation is treasured. For more information call LOPC at 283-8722.
