Diablo Foods may be considered by many East Bay Residents as the “greatest grocery store in the world” and that statement can be backed up by those who shop there. Ueber fresh produce, thousands of local products, hands down the best meat/deli counter anywhere, and customer service that always exceeds expectations. The real story is about the three generations of the Stokes family that make this business not only successful, but a part of the fabric that makes us proud to be part of the Lafayette community. Opening in 1968, Ed and Betty Stokes brought simple “old fashioned” values to our growing city. Treat your customers like family, offer only quality products, and give back to the community you serve. Ed Stokes (Lafayette’s unofficial mayor) has been a role model for all of us. Diablo Foods is committed to local, sustainable faire. A family business that goes beyond unique.

It’s quite a story: one man earning the trust of his neighbors and building the commitment he felt for his community into a bank. Then, through this bank, helping businesses, individuals and the surrounding region grow and prosper. Now, four generations later, that bank — Mechanics Bank — remains committed to developing long-term relationships as a trusted financial partner. This founding philosophy defines who we are and who we will always be. Our commitment began in 1905, a time when banks were few and far between. Today, Mechanics Bank is one of Northern California’s largest independent community banks and still based in the East Bay. With more than $3 billion in assets and 30 locations, we offer full-service banking for businesses, individuals and families. From the latest in online and mobile banking, to business and personal solutions that include wealth management, trust and estate services, Mechanics Bank remains committed to helping our local communities prosper.
